PLASTAZOTE is the cross-linked, nitrogen expanded polyolefin foam that has set the European conservation standard for decades due to its impact absorption, high purity, ease of fabrication and attractive appearance.
Now, Ramplas Ltd has developed Rampak, a unique protection system that enable curators to hand craft bespoke Plastazote protection inserts quickly and easily without the need to use tools such craft knives or hot wire cutters.
Rampak, available in a range of colours, is essentially sheets of archival Plastazote foam that have been pre-cut into 10mm squares, but leaving the corners tacked together. The user can easily remove an area by hand, so

creating a bespoke shape without the need for specialist machining. There remains sufficient give in the foam material to gently grip and support the item during transportation and storage.
The individual 10mm squares can be removed easily by hand to produce both simple and complex shapes for custom protection or tool control purposes.
Rampak is available in a range of thicknesses from 5mm to 30mm and can be layered effectively to protect three-dimensional objects such as ceramics, artifacts and archeological finds. Making a custom insert to fit existing cases, drawers or other storage systems, could not be quicker or simpler.
